What Affects the Cost of Wedding Photography and Videography?

"How much does a wedding photographer or videographer cost?" is usually the first question couples ask — and the honest answer is that prices vary widely because packages vary widely. Rather than quote a number that won't fit every couple, here's a clear breakdown of the factors that actually drive the cost, so you can compare quotes with confidence and know what you're paying for.

1. Hours of coverage

The single biggest lever is how much of your day is covered. A four-hour intimate ceremony costs less to document than a twelve-hour celebration that starts with getting-ready photos and ends with a late-night send-off. Decide which moments matter most to you before comparing packages.

2. Team size

A single photographer or videographer covers a wedding differently than a two-person team. A second shooter captures more angles at once — the groom's reaction while the bride walks down the aisle, for example — and adds redundancy, but also adds cost. Larger weddings often benefit from a bigger team.

3. What's actually delivered

Deliverables vary enormously: the number of edited photos, the length and number of films (a short highlight film versus a full-length feature versus documentary edits of the ceremony and speeches), drone footage, raw files, and physical products like albums and prints. Two quotes at the same price can include very different final products — always compare deliverables, not just the headline figure.

4. Editing and post-production

Much of a photographer's or videographer's work happens after the wedding. Careful color grading, retouching, and a thoughtfully edited film set to your real audio take skill and time — and that craft is a real part of the price. A cinematic, well-edited film simply takes longer to produce than a quick cut.

5. Experience and demand

Established artists with a strong portfolio and a distinctive style book up quickly and price accordingly. Peak dates in peak season (see our guide to the best time of year to get married in South Florida) command higher rates than off-season dates.

6. Travel and location

Destination weddings or venues far from a vendor's home base can add travel, lodging, and logistics costs — worth factoring in if you're marrying in the Keys or another farther-flung spot.

How to compare quotes fairly

Line up quotes side by side and normalize them: same hours, same team size, same deliverables. The cheapest quote often includes far less, and the most expensive isn't automatically the best fit. Also consider whether you want both photography and videography, since combined packages usually cost less than booking two separate vendors.
