Miami Beach Wedding Sunset Timing Guide
On a Miami Beach wedding day, sunset is the number that quietly controls everything else. Get it right and golden-hour portraits, ceremony light, and the mood of the evening all click into place. Get it wrong and you are chasing the light instead of enjoying it. Here is how we think about timing on the island.
The orientation you need to know
Miami Beach faces east, so the Atlantic gets sunrise, not sunset. The sun sets behind the city, over the bay to the west. That means the softest evening color sits inland, and the beach itself goes cool and shadowed before the sky does. We plan around this constantly: ceremonies and portraits are timed so you are lit, not backlit into darkness.
Approximate Miami Beach sunset times by month
These are rough guides; always confirm the exact time for your date, and note that Daylight Saving Time shifts the clock about an hour from mid-March to early November. January around 5:50 PM, February around 6:10 PM, March around 6:25 PM (then 7:25 PM after the clocks change), April around 7:45 PM, May around 8:00 PM, June around 8:15 PM, July around 8:15 PM, August around 7:55 PM, September around 7:25 PM, October around 6:55 PM, November around 5:40 PM, and December around 5:30 PM.
How to build the timeline around it
Set your ceremony so it ends thirty to sixty minutes before sunset. That leaves time for family photos and still protects the golden window for just the two of you. Reserve fifteen to thirty minutes right before sunset for couple portraits, and treat that block as non-negotiable on the schedule.
A note for film
Video loves the minutes just after sunset as much as the ones before. The sky over the bay holds warm color, and the city lights begin to flicker on, which gives a wedding film a natural arc into evening. We often grab a few quiet motion frames in that blue-hour window after the stills are done.
